TECHNICAL SITUATION
With the objective of creating their next generation product, the SWANtech engineering team conceptualized the product's main board as an adapter that connects to the PC/104 industry standard bus. This would allow the board to become a peripheral to a commercially available SBC (Single Board Computer) and enables the use of a wide range of PC/104 peripheral devices. The board needed to implement the complex analog front end chain, analog to digital conversion, and digital signal processing and control with interface with the BUS.
SOLUTION:
The solution involved the integration of complex analog and digital design, the layout of a noise sensitive PCB, and the manufacturing of a dense PC104 form factor PCB. It increased the system capacity 8-fold and dramatically increased its processing power. This was achieved by leveraging FPGA resources on the board and the use of COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) SBCs with larger processing capabilities. The solution was develop on time and on budget, meeting all the client's requirements and is currently being deployed around the world.
